Song of the Moment: Wonderful World - James Morrison

Kind of obsessed with "Wonderful World" by James Morrison. I love the tone of his voice, and it's such a song where you're just driving in the car, spring day, windows down, and sing. Although it talks about wanting to cry, but that's besides the point. I love it.

First heard it from a contestant on American Idol... Alex Lambert (not Adam). Sadly, he just got voted off. Yes he was awkward and shy (performance-wise), but did you not hear his voice?!? Amaze.

Alice in Wonderland

So a couple of weeks ago, Ian and I went to the midnight showing of Alice in Wonderland. To much of his surprise, it was my first midnight showing. The thing is, I'm not a huge fan of crowds, and my thinking is, the movie's gonna play for a few months, I'll go when there aren't a bunch of crazies everywhere.

And now, I'm going to say this out loud, and hopefully none of you will judge me... I don't think I've ever seen the original Alice in Wonderland. I believe I've seen snippets of the cartoon series when I was younger, but then again, I'm not sure. Although, I do know little things about it, like the twins, and how she falls in a hole, grows and shrinks, and there's some sort of tea party. That's it. So going into this, it was just another movie to me. Keep this in mind when I tell you what I thought. But then again, one of my friends told me I didn't need to know the story to understand this film, because it's kind of like a "part two". ok.

So the movie was directed by Tim Burton. We all know he's a twisted man. Also, Johnny Depp is in the movie, should I say more? I liked the movie. It was surprisingly funny, and the 3D moments were nice. I was excited to see Anne Hathaway, and I liked her, but she seemed a bit trying. Does that make sense? I still like her tons though. I don't know who Helena Bonham Carter is, but she rocked it for me. And I'm pretty sure the "twins" were on the show Little Britain. All in all, I'd give it a 5.1. Keep in mind, I'm a pretty harsh rater (well, I'd like to think that). So yes, I said I liked it, and a 5.1 is above average. There you go.

The Perfect Garage Dance Party

I know what you're thinking already, and it's not the kind of dance party I'm about to talk about. I'm legit, talking about a dance party in a garage, and when I say "garage", I'm talking about a parking garage. Yes, like the one that costs money by the hour.

Here is the recipe to the perfect garage dance party: Four gay guys, one straight girl, an electric blue Toyota Yaris, three IPhones, Lady Gaga, and a parking garage. Here's how to make it perfect: You park in the garage per usual. After work, go out for some cocktails, come back to the car with the ingredients (the people), open your windows (or doors) and blast Lady Gaga. This will cause everyone to dance.

Why a parking garage you ask? Great acoustics.

Song of the Moment - We Are the World 25 for Haiti - Various Artists

I know, so cheesy, but I'm a sucker for various artists singing together. I'm just a huge fan of diversity and many different things combined. Like in dance, I like it when you fuse hip-hop and ballet together or contemporary and ballroom, it just makes things so much more interesting. Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie got back together to get these artists in the same room to record this remake. With this song, there are all kinds of artists. You can hear all the different tones and sounds in one song. You can hear artists from Barbara Streisand to Kanye West, Tony Bennett to Mylie Cyrus, and even Adam Levine from Maroon 5 to Isaac Slade from the Fray. I just think it's amazing to hear all the changes in voices and to know all these people took the time to collaborate for a great cause.

Although I am obsessed with this song at the moment, there are a few things I'm not a huge fan of: Justin Bieber starts the song off. Um, you're a baby and you have one song. Really? Quincy and Lionel, what were you thinking? Also, I think it's cool that they incorporated the rappers in the song , like Will.i.am, LL Cool J, and T-Pain, but their rapping went on for, what I believe, is a tad bit too long. I think it's incredible that they brought back some people that are a step away from being on "Where are they now" though, like: Enrique Iglesias, Busta Rhymes, and Toni Braxton. For a song like this, I'm a little upset they didn't have powerhouses like Carrie Underwood, Mariah, or even Gaga (Have her take Justin Bieber or Nick Jonas's place. haha).

My highlights: Celine Dion and Josh Groban. In a song like this, their voices are so distinct that it just makes the song incredible. P!nk and Jennifer Hudson were also pretty fab.

Song's on repeat.

Awkward.com

For those who know me, I'm pretty awkward. But you know what? I believe it's part of my charm. I'm that person that likes to point out when a situation is awkward. "um, awkward..." haha and I love it when my friends tell me "Um, it wasn't awkward until you said it". Which may perhaps be true, but who doesn't like an awkward moment? I like to say I'm having an awkward decade. And you know what? It's not just me, I believe it's this whole generation. But really, who isn't awkward? I've recently heard the best thing that ever came out of ones mouth "Awkward is the new black." Yes and yes. Amen!

There are many variations of awkward though. There are the people who are funny awkward. So awkward.com you love and die everywhere. And then there's that quirky awkward. Cute and fun. But then there are those people who are SO awkward, they make everyone around them uncomfortable. You know you're really awkward when you make everyone AROUND you feel awkward. You know who I'm talking about. So awkward that you feel bad. Awful, I know. But then again, that's just who they are.

I believe awkquidity, (yes, I'm copyrighting it) adds character to a person.

Can you believe I just wrote a whole segment on "Awkwardness?"

Man, it's cold outside!!!

Yeah I said it, it's COLD outside. I cannot WAIT for the warm weather to come. Times like these, I wonder why I'm still living in New England... You'd think being born and raised here, we'd get used to the weather. Well you know what? It's still damn cold. Although, what I've noticed about us New Englanders is that, we like to complain. We complain when it's too cold, too hot, too snowy, too humid. The weather is never good enough for us.

So I guess I'm really fine with this weather, I'm just being a normal New Englander. This is me complaining... It's cold outside. And according to weather.com, it's supposed to snow tomorrow. Let's see if it really does, because last week, everyone got all crazy, and when I woke up, there wasn't any snow in sight. Fun.

I want summer. I want the sun. I've been counting down the days til summer since the first frost last year. I like the sun, I like wearing flip-flops, I like wearing shorts, I love the beach, I want to tan, I love being outside. I want to jump and take a picture on the beach like these two people.

Let's do it.

Happy Valentine's Day

I know I'm a day late, but Happy Valentine's Day! Hope everyone got everything they wanted, whether it was a beautiful dinner, a night out, a night in, movie night, or just nothing, I hope it was a good day. I've heard many different things on this day: guys getting treated for the day because it has always been about the girl, people hating life because they don't have valentines, and people having the nice dinner. Either way, I hope it was what you wanted it to be.

The boy and I had a beautiful dinner in the North End. I rarely venture out to the North End, and might I say, it's insanely cute. So quaint and lovely. I enjoyed it very much so. Now if only the weather wasn't brutally frigid.

FashFash of the week - Plaid

I know these came back a little while ago, but I think they're still hot. They make me think of country, and country is always charming :) Who doesn't like a Southern boy? There are so many different kinds: shapes, lengths, and colors that makes it works for most people. You can wear them un-tucked and messy, or even tucked in and proper. Yes, I said it, I personally, believe it works even tucked in. I'm not saying that everyone can work it tucked, but it can work, like in an emo, skinny jeans kind of way.

One thing I can say about this look is, don't wear it loose/baggy. Don't even it. It should fit your body. Whether you're hefty or a twig, it should be snug. And by "snug" I don't mean it should stick to your skin. You get the idea. Use your own discretion. Ask you friends cause if they were really your friend, they won't let you go out looking like a mess.

And for the ladies...I think this look is extra hot on women. It reminds me of when ladies wear men's clothing. It makes me think of white button down with just undies. It's kinda similar in a way. Seriously, that is hot as hell. But just with plaid. But remember, know your body. There are big/small squares. Use them wisely :)

Een oh aut (In or out) - Beanies

So I'm introducing a new segment to my blog... "Een oh aut", where we will be looking into "fads" and judging them. Yes, judging. My motto has always been: "I don't judge my friends, but my friends and I will judge you", in other words, let's be friends. So here we are...beanies. When did this fad happen? Not sure, but I'm a fan. Een it is. And like anything else, not everyone can pull these off.

For those who know me, you know I am one that would not be able to pull beanies off. The reasons: Hi, have you seen my hair? Secondly, I don't have the hobo chic thing going on. Lastly, the shape of my head...or should I say size?

I guess I basically just named the reasons why it wouldn't work for others: You're not hobo chic, stop trying because you're looking homeless and I don't have change. Your head is way too big or too small, and it's not supposed to be wrapped around your whole head, I can't see you.

Een oh aut?

Song of the Moment: Rihanna - Russian Roulette

I understand this isn't a big "fave" of anyone I know, but I'm pretty sure I'm obsessed with this song right now. First time hearing it, I wasn't a fan. After seeing the video though...Fan. Not because the video necessarily made the song special at all, I think it may be because it showed me a little bit more of what kind of song it was. Either way, I'm hooked. My apologizes to my cube mates at work. Rihanna is on repeat.

It's around that time of year again... TAXES!

It's only "that time of year" if you're the kind of person that likes to do things early to "get them out of the way", or in my case...you REALLY needed the money. Funny thing about this; there has been lots of talk amongst my peers and colleagues about how our tax returns this year may be significantly less than last year's return. People even talked about how many of us may perhaps have to PAY BACK to the state/government! Whoa.

This actually cause a lot of anxiety for me, and for those who know me, the anxiety pretty much spread to many others... "Did you do your taxes yet? Is it less? Did you have to pay? What'd you get last year?"...(Walks to another friend) "Did you do your taxes yet? Oh, well I heard it's significantly less this year... Yeah... You may even have to pay back... Yeah I know!"

Well to get my anxiety out of the way, I did it. I did my taxes... and guess what? I actually got a little bit more than I did last year. Granted I did have to pay tuition this year so that really helped, but at least i didn't have to pay back any money :) So let's take this time to take a big ol' sigh of relief...unless you wrote down "zero" when you first started your job. (or was it "1"? I never know which one is right). haha

FashFash of the week - Cardigans

So as most of you know, I am a huge fan of cardigans, especially in the last couple of years. I just think it's very classy and pretty flattering. In my opinion, cardigans are so back, yet it seems some people are having a hard time believing/grasping the fact. Each and every time I wear a cardigan, I've been called "Grandpa", "Mr. Rogers", or "Pepe". You would think, for someone who cares so much about what people think about him, I would go home and burn all of my cardigans...nope. In fact, I wear them proud and say "Um, this is fashion forward, please get in the 'now'" :)

Cardigans are an easy way to make an outfit look different, and they're also very versatile! You can wear them with a button down and tie (for work or a night out), you can wear them with a T-shirt underneath (to give it a little edge), or you can wear them with shorts in the summer (very Hampton's). I recently bought a new purple cardigan and I cannot wait to wear it with my white shorts in the summer.

Don't worry, I didn't forget about the ladies.

This actually is not a good picture of the kind of cardigan I love on women. I'm hugely a fan of long thin cardigans for women at the moment. A cardigan that is really light, that you can put on, buttoned or unbuttoned, and wear with jeans or leggings. It's a very hot ticket item for me right now. Get on it.

Tube Socks Obsession

Hello, my name is Jimmy, and I have a tube socks obsession. I'm not really sure what it is, but I love them! I believe my obsession began around last year. I started wearing them to teach dance in. It was just so much easier and more comfortable. I like dancing without shoes on, and socks just made it easier to turn in without rug burn. Plus, in a little way, they kind of show off your calves (not that I have bulging calves, but they're still seen.)

Other times, it's kind of just nice to wear them high with shorts on when you're lounging around your house. There's just something about them. American Apparel is a very unique clothing store where many of their items are actually "back-in-the-day" items, that can be rocked nowadays. I went shopping there last week and totally forgot how many different kinds/colors of tube socks they have. Obviously their prices are annoyingly annoying, so my goal is to buy one pair a week so it doesn't seem like I'm paying $100 on less then a dozen pairs of socks.

And for the guys....
We all know, picturing me in tubes socks isn't very turn-ony. But you guys know how hot tube socks can be on a girl. Example number one to our left. I think it's perfect when a hot girl wears tube socks with underwear, so as you can see their thighs, granted Giselle here isn't wearng any undies, but you know, she's a model, she can get away with that. Love.

So I end with this picture for my male audience :) Enjoy.

What do YOU think of tube socks?

Vanity Fair Controversy

Tell me what comes to mind when you first look at the picture above... My first thought was "wow, I need to catch up on my celebrities because I have no idea who half of these girls are!" Well, according to Yahoo.com, the controversy involving this Vanity Fair issue is... No Diversity. Funny thing is, I thought of all people, me, being Asian, would see that right away. Yeah, no. One thing I did notice was, they're all ghostly. Is pale the new thing? Regardless, I thought this was a non-issue, I believe it's more of a coincidence. What do you all think?

Ideas? Comments? Suggestions?

So I understand I just started blogging last week but I'd like to pick your brains at the moment. Awkward thing is, my readers at the moment are 90% coworkers. ha! That's a good thing as well, because I see these people everyday, they can help me with ideas, comments, and suggestions. So far, one of my friends pointed out that my subject matter and writing style tends to attract more female/gay readers, which seems pretty valid. I will now start thinking about men-friendly subjects...

...Just not yet. haha I have to think about things. In the meantime, here's a picture of men in female garments. :)
Ok ok, one thing I am interested in writing and learning about is kiteboarding. I have a couple of friends that kiteboard, and I am fascinated.

This blog is actually inspired by two close friends of mine that have such clever, tactful, and witty voices. I'm working on it myself, and hope I can find my "voice" soon. So tell me what you like, what you dislike, what you think I should write about, or just write a comment :)

Nail Bit(e)

So I thought, since I do nails, why not do a little "bit" about nails. As a manicurist, I get to see and work with many different types of nails during all seasons of the year, and since it's winter, let's talk about what is happening with our nails...they're DRY! And yes, when i say dry, I not only am talking about our skin, but it's our nails as well! So there's a lot of chipping, splitting, and breaking of the nails going on. It's sad. And as most of you know, I bite my nails as well (yes, I should know better as a manicurist but really, as long as YOUR nails look good after you see me, that's all that matters right?) and this is the worst time for nail biters because our cuticles get so dry that things hang everywhere and we pick and bite every second of the day. My advice? Keep lotion around you at all times. All the Purell and sanitizers everywhere makes our skin even worse. Try to lotion as much as you can until the warmer weather comes (which I am hopeful it'll come early this year). And ladies, I do recommend clear nail polish if you do not have any nail polish on at all, it helps from breakage a bit.

AIDS Action's Dance Party

Friday night after work, I went to the "AIDS Action Dance Party" with a bunch of my friends. Are you ready for the theme? This is an actual quote fromt he website "Wear your best '70s, '80s and/or Disco Beach Party outfit!" I'm sorry, what? Yeah, I wasn't the only one confused. Oh and: "NOTE: There will not be a lifeguard on duty; wear Speedos at your own risk ;)" What an outfit dilemma. haha I originally heard it was a beach party and thought "Leave it to the gays to have a 'beach party' in the middle of winter".

Then I found out it was 70s, 80s, disco. Hi, I'm overwhelmed. The party was at the Mariott at Copley, pretty nice venue. I was hoping there were gonna UV lights everywhere so we can tan while dancing... didn't happen. When we walked in, there was a disco ball in the middle of the dance floor with 70s music playing with beach balls being thrown around. Just take a minute to picture that. Yeah, awkward.com. The good thing about this was that I went there with fun people. We drank, we danced, we left with lots of beads :) After dancing to a lot of dated songs, we decided to hit a club that played music that was actually danceable/young. That was a nice end to the night.

Oh, and for those of you curious about what I wore?

These shorts...in red.

Ugly Betty Cancelled

So I'm not, nor was ever an Ugly Betty fan... odd, I know, but it is kinda sad that the show is getting cancelled :( I believe it's gonna run eight new episodes, including the series finale and then...bye bye. I'm just glad it's not one of the five million shows I'm hooked on. My condolences for all of the obsessive fans of the Ug-Bet.

As some of you may have already noticed, I haven't been updating my blog daily. yup, I came to the conclusion that my schedule doesn't really allow me to update daily, I just do (and want to do) way too much. So I'm going to predict that this blog will become very sporadic. Let's hope it's enough for people to follow me :) It's Sunday night, nothing better than chillin' in my PJs with a glass of merlot, blogging. Enjoy!

Armani Exchange has a new campaign...The point?

So I admit, I used to be a giant Armani Exchange person. There was a time where I thought shirts that stuck to my body was hot. I believe we are all grateful that phase has passed.

I recently fell upon the new Armani Exchange campaign and thought to myself... "what is the point?" Ok ok, we all know that "sex sells", but really, what is happening here? Don't get me wrong, I love half naked people, but what are our friends at Armani Exchange headquarters thinking? "Let's advertise as little products as we can." Do pictures like these make you want to buy? I'm curious about their marketing strategies.

Example number one: This guy is basically naked. What is he selling? A tan? Not sure about you, but I'm pretty sure he's saying he wants to have sex with me.

I'm a little confused as to how/what I am supposed to feel when I look at these pictures. A part of me wants to take off the rest of their clothes, I mean, it looks like they're in some tropical island, it's hot, the other part of me is asking, "are we supposed to buy the clothes so we can 'look' like them"? Honestly, I don't think people that beautiful actually exist in real life.

All of a sudden, I want to go tanning.

Hello Hello!

Hello there! Introductions are the hardest/worst. I'm diving head first into this blog with a random subject - yes, taboo - but it is happening. here. right. now.

Enjoy!
